Bonsucro Week 2016

26th January 2017

Last year’s Bonsucro Week brought together a global group of dedicated sugarcane thought leaders in London.

The week started with a guided tour of the Docklands Gallery in the Museum of London, focusing in particular on the the historical relationship between London, sugar, and slavery.

The theme of the next day was Learn, Share, Connect. Talks and workshop sessions were both educational and inspirational, and presentations from some of the most trusted names in the sugarcane industry proved to be powerful and moving.

Day 3 offered guests a chance to directly influence the world of sugarcane.

The day allowed us to update the community on what had been achieved over the previous 12 months, and guests were invited to contribute to plans going forward.

In addition, we received feedback about what priorities we should focus on, what the community’s and Bonsucro’s role is in making change happen, and what could be done differently to be more effective.

The remainder of the week, the Sustainable Sugarcane Conference, was conducted in partnership with Innovation Forum. The goal of the two-day event was to illustrate the commercial viability of ethical and sustainable sugarcane practices. It covered such topics as:

  • Transparency and Traceability
  • Human Rights
  • Smallholder Farmers
  • Environmental Pressures
  • Biofuels and Ethanol

We’d like to thank our speakers, partners, guests and staff for their time and engagement over the course of Bonsucro Week 2016, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
